Worldwide technical, environmental exist for nanomaterials
Nano World 2013
world demand for nanomaterials increase of 20% annually through 2013
Although market demand has not matched with the considerable hype that nanotechnology has generated in the last decade and a half nanomaterials have achieved a significant commercial presence. global demand for nanomaterials will continue to grow, registering robust twenty per cent increase annual U.S. $ 3.6 billion in 2013. By 2025, nanomaterials are expected to reach more than $ 34 billion in sales, having still only scratched the surface of enormous market potential. Carbon nanotubes to gain market share through 2025
Many of the initial applications of nanomaterials, which have had the greatest business impact, have involved relatively low-tech materials and applications. These include nanoscale versions of conventional materials, including silica, alumina, oxide titanium, clays, and gold and silver metals. These nanomaterials have found wide applications such as wafer polishing slurries for semiconductor processing, products personal care such as sunscreen, antibacterial treatments and consumer products. In the next decade or two, however, relatively few of nanomaterials again, in particular carbon nanotubes, will a greater proportion of the overall demand for nanomaterials. Producers such as Arkema, Bayer, and Showa Denko Nanocyl have raised or announced increases in capacity of the nanotubes in recent years, as these products find greater use in electronics and motor vehicle components.
Medical care to overcome the electronics as the largest global market for nanomaterials
Health care was the second largest market for nanomaterials in 2008, but is expected to overtake electronics as the main outlet in 2013 and beyond. Nanomaterialbased pharmaceuticals, including nanoscale for controlled release of drugs and nanoscale active ingredients, have enjoyed a significant degree of commercial success to date. In the future, it is expected that nanomaterials will be extended for pharmaceutical products and medical products other healthcare applications, including diagnosis, image and care dental. In addition, the range of nanomaterials used extended, covering the nanotubes, metals and new nanoscale materials such as dendrimers and quantum dots.
U.S. to remain the largest market
In 2008, the market for nanomaterials is largely concentrated in the developed world. U.S. and Japan together to account for over half of global demand, while Western Europe and two high-income nations in Asia, Taiwan and South Korea, staged a 34 additional cent. While virtually all nanomaterial markets experience strong double-digit growth in demand, the most rapid growth is forecast in rapidly industrializing countries of China and India. In 2025, China is expected to surpass Japan's second largest market for nanomaterials in the world behind the United States.
The technical, environmental exist for nanomaterials
While the prospects of nanomaterials is generally bright, a number of potential complications exist. In some cases, technical issues such as the agglomeration of nanotubes in composite materials, plastic are still a challenge. Perhaps more fundamental, concern for safety and environmental impact of nanomaterials may be impediments to success commercial.
